Learning diary 4 ( teaching practice)

Teaching practice did for two days ( 5.11.2024, 6.11.2024)

Teaching topic was chosen from part of module ‘implementation as a citizen in the society’ and ‘preparation for working life’.

  2. 1. Understanding of 17 sustainable development goals from United Nations 

  1. 2. Relevant responsible environment symbols and safety symbols in workplace  

  1. 3. Basic mathematics skills and cognitive skills as preparation for working life


  2. How to deploy to teach teaching topics were by using cognitive apprenticeship pedagogical theory. I made two different models to implement learning by doing teaching methods according to cognitive apprenticeship. 

  3. Why did I make two different two models?

  4. I considered that special needs student's cognitive skills and meta cognitive skills are not same levels. Individualized model to learn teaching topic is essential. additionally it was meaningful to know for students how to develop for meta cognitive skills increasingly.

  6. "who, with whom, what to do, target, when, where, why, how many symbols to learn, assessment criteria regarding preparation for work, how to go, observation for couching and scaffolding, discussion and feedback as a couch"

  7. How teaching practice went according to application of modelling two differently?

  9. Teaching practice went as usual to do work assignments in K market. learning by doing to repeat basic mathematics skills for product management, organization and classification etc. Student's capacities and working concentration were good to work without short break time within 1 hour.

  10. Additionally, to teach one symbol of fair trade mark on worksite was practical to find what kinds of products have. It was enough to explain why It has, how it helps to society. What sustainable development 17 goals are related with Fair trade marked products.

  11. Kahoot question game were played to go though true or false game while waiting for return bus. As self evaluation, student filled out learning diary form to write down 3 things including what learnt today, how today's feeling, what was target to learn.

  12. Student's working performance were great. But own analytical skills to go through teaching topic, own feelings, what is difficult to learn, achievement are required teacher's company to improve meta cognitive skills for learning.

  14. It was my first time to go with a student for work in K market. customized model was to maximize learning by doing. However it was excluded teaching topics such as sustainable development 17 goals, safety symbol, environment symbol on products. I planed to observe student's own demonstration, cognitive skills, basic math skills, meta cognitive skills, time management skills, interpersonal skills to work together and so on. Student used own cash to buy breakfast while break time upon teacher's agreement. It was unpredictable, but occasionally was possible for student to practice what to buy something for breakfast. Student was active to learn and solve problems such as code machine usage, e print, understanding of international products.

  15. Student's learning diary was used to fill out as self evaluation form after coming back from workplace. Student's own reflection took time to think what have been done, what products were there, what kind of works, with whom to work, what is dream work or occupation, what was difficult and so on. Guidance and giving time to think were important to fill out form.

   
Cognitive apprenticeship approach was applicable for special needs students. Teacher's collaborative works are essential to deepen student's own knowledge and reflections among society and workplace.
Learning by doing teaching method is good and possible to add more teaching topic according to student's capacities, target, interests, needs etc. Having own reflection, thoughts, self discussion, discussion together as meta cognitive skills are needed to practice both individually and as group.
Teaching materials were distributed to use for the next time to students. Individualized and customized teaching materials, teaching topic are key to let them learn efficiently. Both summative and formative assessment are helpful to follow student's learning process and achievements. student's self evaluation and learning diary are good methods to increase their self reflection skills. 
Student's problem solving skills should be mentioned as compliments they could do timely.

Teacher's understanding on vocational school law, safety law, curriculum are essential to guide student's learning during workplace and school days to prevent risk from any exceptional situation plus solve problems.
