Learning diary (teaching practice 5)

 Date: 21.11.2024 As final teaching practice, I have chosen teaching topic as  " understanding of fundamental rights under the constitution in Finland ". Constructivism learning theory was applied to prepare for teaching practice. Teaching materials are prepared both with text and pictures with keywords of fundamental rights in Finland. Texts and explanation were prepared mainly for assistant to support correct information, if they need to practically read and help to talk with special needs students. I have shown Yle areena video related in constitution and fundamental rights and my own teaching materials consisting with pictures during teaching practice. Visualized teaching skill and materials were essential for them to have idea and recognize topics. Teaching practice did for two days ( 5.11.2024, 6.11.2024) Teaching topic was chosen from part of module ‘implementation as a citizen in the society’ and ‘preparation for working life’.   Teaching topic 1. Understanding of 17 sustainable development goals from United Nations   2. Relevant responsible environment symbols and safety symbols in workplace     3. Basic mathematics skills and cognitive skills as preparation for working life How to deploy to teach teaching topics were by using cognitive apprenticeship pedagogical theory. I made two different models to implement learning by doing teaching methods according to cognitive apprenticeship.   Why did I make two different two models? I considered that special needs student's cognitive skills and meta cognitive skills are not same levels. Teaching practice ( 31.10.2024) Teaching topic   Introduction of housing benefit as one of social benefits in Finland   Understanding of li fe as an adult in the future     Constructivism learning theory was applicable to develop student's previous knowledge got from their life time to have deep insights and brief explanation on teaching material's contents for example, ' considering where to live,   con venience ne arby home,    who can live together,   home structure’s preferences,     how to organize stuff at home,    what I want to do at home   and what is important at home.' First of all, Dialogic teaching method as student centered approach went through assistant and students first to think about questionnaire's questions and pictures.  24.10.2024 Teaching topic: 1. Distinguishing between popular culture and different sub culture s in Finland     2. Learning and experiences about Korean culture as one of subcultures in Finland   3. Understanding of cultural making facts   Analysis humanism learning theoretical approach was suitable to apply for cultural experience to students depending on their own will and freedom to try out. Morning information time was limi ted. Teaching topic as "Distinguishing between popular culture and different sub culture s in Finland  " could not teach and discuss with students. Teaching materials preparation check lists for cooking materials, teaching materials were well prepared but still there was some missed products. Double check is needed always in order not to disturb daily classroom's schedule. Check list was helpful. Mistakes always found easily and got feedback from others as well.   Analysis about pedagogical approach during teaching practice Pre assignment provided for students  to have good motivation and basic knowledges about European Unions, how it has been built, Finland history to join as European Unions's member and what is important value etc. As a flipped classroom approach, teacher's role and absence or not are significant to activate student's self learning in advance before teaching class. But student's memory skills depends vary. A flipped classroom approach is suitable for special needs students to have active participation while class or repeated learning to have certain knowledges and information. According to Updated National Road map for Research, Development and Innovation by Ministry of Education and Culture in 2021, It is obviously highlighted goal as 4% RDI (Research, Development, Innovation) expenditure to be increased by 2030 recognition of "competences, partnership and public sector's innovation " . RDI work is linked to promote in higher institutions such as universities and universities of applied sciences with adaptation of needs on international talents.  Funding from Business Finland and Academy of Finland were one of impacts to attract International experts, students into higher institutions as well small business network for research participation.
