Competence in legislation and documents ( 08.02.2023)
Reflection on group 1
I participated in room 1 channel to learn competence about legislation and documents. Participants were Pilar, Pablo, Jin and Christina. However, Pablo was absent. Yusra had to present on behalf of group 2.
During confidentiality law session time, Pilar asked what do we think about personal data generally. She told us that recognizable information by inferring directly or indirectly can be personal data by mentioning data such as representative, identifiable in/directly with certain physical, mental, economic, cultural and social.
Three typical personal data are sensitive personal data, general personal data and details of criminal offences. Pilar introduced interesting case study related in confidentiality.
Case was briefly that about 7,965 student's personal information those who have downloaded copies of online diploma from matriculation examination board between 2012- 2016 has leaked because of online security breach on the servers of matriculation examination board.
This case study was clear to figure out what is belong to data, personal data while discussion time. But It had less correlation with discussion question with " how should teacher deal with student's data? why confidential data should be considered among teachers and students?" Because it was more related in systemic online security breach issue which was not related in teacher's own fault.
GDPR Art 5 regarding principle related in processing of personal data was told to us to know as controller or processor's point of view to keep in mind.
Main keywords by Pilar were
"lawfulness, fairness and transparency, data ministration, accuracy,
integrity and confidentiality, purpose of limitation and storage limitation."
For me, interesting part of learning in GDPR Art 5 was about purpose of limitation. I was taught collected personal data for one purpose is inflexible to use for another purpose. Consents and conditions to transfer for other purpose should bear in mind always. And example of Moodle was practical to know about lecturer's right when to delete student's information at certain time after such as 6 months evaluation. Group1's closing was that every student's personal data is belonging to student. And It should be treated as private and confidential as teacher in classroom. Confidentiality make an effect when personal data is shared to others. Teacher needs be aware of how to handle personal data.
Lastly, I have a thought that teacher's one of responsibilities are to teach and inform to students what is student's right to preserve their own personal data in school and vocational school as well.
Reflection on group 2
Group 2's session started by Yusra. We participated in Jamboard to comment on
thoughts regarding question on
1." what do you think are the principles of good administration of a teacher?"
2. "What are the principles of good administration and how are they evident in the everyday work of a teacher?"
Yusra started session with Jamboard. Highly commented words were confidentiality, safety, words related in ethics by others. During Yusra's session, Yusra introduced their selected good administrations principles as responsibility, integrity and equality.
In my opinions, Responsibility as one of administration principles is related in organizing and participating cooperation to give care, assistance, access for students according to student's own goal and needs. Responsible person or group in VET school can be vary as long as it is related in cooperation.
Equality as one of administration principles is mentioned. Personal competence development plan, use of proper and clear language and easy accessibility for service were told to us. Teacher's duty can be two different as both independent and cooperative for both student's most benefits to learn and to provide safe and beneficial learning environments.
Integrity as one of administration principles, plagiarism, feedback and confidentiality were told to us. Student has right to receive feedback from teacher. However, the vague part of delivering feedback is that feedback it should not be personal. Feedback needs precise advice for student's learning improvements. However, Teacher is required to have clear solution and assessments, interpersonal skills and problem solving skills to deliver feedback on certain issue related in student's social relationship or behaviors caused by bullying or bullied situation, group assignment's conflict and student's own health issue. integrity part was supportive to back up our psychological safety teaching session to introduce about interpersonal risks. Teacher's qualified and experienced management, assessments skills and cooperation with work community in VET school will be helpful to promote psychological safety and integrity in my opinions. Yusra's teaching session was beneficial for me to know which part of laws in Finland indicated on administration principles of responsibility, equality and integrity.
Reflection on group 4
Christina represented as group 4. She had teaching session on copyright for teachers. She explained us main points of what is copyright, what copyright does protect? and copyright's validity. I understood creativity is important rule to understand why copyright is important. Author and anyone who created own expressive work need to be protected by distinguishing the facts on "what is belong to info, idea, subject, plot or structure in the work." as Christina mentioned during webinar. During her webinar, I learnt copyright's starting point is from work has been finished. Author's copyright can be 50-70 years with possibility to keep. And Author can pass some copyright upon wishes.
Limit not to cross copyright's abuse in certain case are told to us. For example. ask for consent on using protected copyright's materials to author in advance , how to deal with un/licensed materials and proper citation on author and source.
Additionally maximum either 20 pages including text and images to print as teaching materials or max 10 pages including sheet music and lyrics as teaching materials are mentioned.
In the middle of webinar, Christina asked us to participate in 10 quiz via socrative.com. Interesting question was " Can you use your colleague's teaching material freely?" This question is related to teacher's copyright's possession. As Christina told us in webinar before, info or ideas can use or apply. But copy text will be violate copyright's law as long as it is belongs to teacher's copyright.
Through webinar, I found most interesting sources to learn about copyright for example. www.kopiraittila.fi, copyright's act in Finland, www.kopiosto.fi.
Reflection on own group.
Our group 3's member were Carlos, Yuhua and Me. Three of us had to adjust time differences to prepare group assignments together. We could able to meet each others via teams and whatsapp phone call although Carlos was in Mexico. Group 3's given topic was " How do I ensure the safety of the environment as a teacher? What kind of things are regulated by the law?"
Team work's challenges happened while researched materials.
As legislation and safety law in Finland are mostly provided in Finnish,
Carlos had to ask for safety guidance materials to another teacher.
Yuhua researched about psychological safety and child protection parts.
I was in charge of rescue law, notification obligation, compulsory education law related in safety,
and responsibility to inform social worker. According to our webinar plan, We had plan to make discussion activities with topic of safe
and unsafe learning environments.
And interview at least one person to ask about safety and share interview while webinar.
But We could not implement an interview to share participants while webinar time because of lack of time.
During my teaching session webinar time, I was quite confident to explain about psychological social context. Student's right to show any feeling whatever negative or positive was emphasized. I told participants that psychological safety are related in individuals to prevent themselves from social environments and ready to take interpersonal risks.
Four different type of interpersonal risks are ignorance when asking question, categorization negatively about past and present, incompetent when accepting error or failure, asking for help, general situation and intrusive when asking feedback.
Padlet activities had main question as " what safety environment should we consider as a teacher?" Participants commented about their thoughts which was divided by four different sections ( physical safety, social safety, psychological safety, pedagogical safety) For me, when participants commented all, I realized that they considered that bullying is related in physical and psychological safety. And Someone from other group commented about physical safety by wondering like " Does this exist if studying in work place outside of educational institution?" I would answer that safety always required in any place as long as there is risk or possibility of any risks. Vocational school is highly related in work based learning after learning enough practical, informative knowledge in VET school, student can learn how to prevent any safety related in risk or accidents or first aid in VET in advance. And supervisor in work place can give advice to student's physical safety.
Cooperation work
During my practical nurse study, I have learnt that who is responsible for child protection. And I told to others while webinar, that changed compulsory law in 2018 had significant impact to influx under 18 years old students to vocational school. Vocational teacher is one of responsible occupations to report to municipal social worker regardless of confidentiality. I have told participants that when to interrupt student. It can be when student needs care, delayed or weak development has been recognized and student themselves's own behavior needed to be checked up to professional.
I was told to others about vocational school law section 9, 80, 84, 85, 87, 89 clauses to keep in mind that
Student has right to be in safe environment.
Teacher or principal has right to remove student from classroom,
Teacher has right to use force to defense themselves in case of removing student from classroom in certain cases,
Teacher submit written explanation letter to educational organizer.
Drug test certification should be delivered in case student has endangers of traffic safety, own or other's health issue, informational confidentiality issue and significantly increase of risks of illegal trades.
Closing,
Teacher should be aware of Finnish legislation in order to provide safe learning environments to students. Learning about Finnish legislation laws which were topics on confidentiality, administration, copyright and safety environment were massive amounts to learn and familiar with Finnish society and education as teacher. Teacher's paying attention to amendments comparing to current law will give confident to keep safe learning environments as teacher individual and as teacher who is one of educational institutional work staff. Finnish constitution, VET law, comprehensive school aw, University law etc can guide teacher to acknowledges of regulated administration.
10b. You are able to search and find up-to-date information on the legislation that governs your work as a teacher. Further demonstration needed.
11b. You examine the documents and principles that guide assessment. Further demonstration needed.
After I got feedback to improve related in competence goal 10b and 11b in legislation and documents, I thoroughly thought what I have done related in competence in legislation and documents. Here I share what I have done and learnt from 2023 until now while studying individually, working life and board member in registered kindergarten organization in Finland.
